New Orleans is one of those rare cities where the food scene feels bottomless — like a living organism that keeps growing new limbs while you’re still trying to taste the old ones. I’ve been a chef for almost twenty years, and I’ve joked for just as long that I could live here the rest of my life and still never eat my way through this place. It’s not just a city; it’s an edible universe. Every neighborhood, every block, every corner store has something simmering, frying, baking, or bubbling that deserves its own pilgrimage.
People outside Louisiana think New Orleans is only Cajun and Creole — fried seafood, gumbo, étouffée, red beans, boils. And yes, those are here, and they’re glorious. But that’s just the front porch. Once you step inside, you realize the city is a mosaic of influences: French technique, African depth, Caribbean brightness, Vietnamese precision, Sicilian comfort, Gulf Coast pragmatism, and a kind of improvisational magic that only happens in places where culture is lived, not curated.
There are restaurants here that feel like time capsules — places where the recipes haven’t changed in fifty years because they don’t need to. She was so friendly, so welcoming & had amazing recommendations. We will definitely be booking again when we have the chance! Her home is beautiful, her backyard space is to die for & she’s downright awesome.

Genevieve is one of the most gracious Airbnb hosts I’ve ever had. She goes out of her way to make guests feel at home. It was more like a bed and breakfast thanks to her hospitality. The location was a little tricky for us since we had a baby and there weren’t a lot of great options to walk immediately near the house, but there were lots of nice spots within a 10 minute walk. This would be a tremendous deal for anyone looking for a more authentic neighborhood away from the tourist traps.
Genevieve’s place was one of the BEST Airbnbs I’ve ever stayed in. First of all, Genevieve herself is a total delight — warm and accommodating, fun and hilarious. Her place is a true gem. It’s spotless, comfortable and thoughtfully decorated. Even though the apartment is attached to her house, you still have total privacy and quiet. The neighborhood is convenient to anywhere you’d want to go in Marigny. And last, but very important, thing — her dogs are the sweetest dogs ever. We have were totally in love with them! We can’t wait to come back!

The first time I visited New Orleans was back in 2002, and I remember crying as I headed to the airport. Even then, I knew this city was my place.
Something in its rhythm, its spirit, its unapologetic soul wrapped around me and didn’t let go. I embraced New Orleans culture with its brass bands on street corners, jazz clubs tucked into old buildings, and second lines that parade through the streets for weddings, funerals, and every moment life demands to be honored. I fell in love with the food, the voodoo and superstitions, and all the rituals tied to the land and the dead.
It took me twenty years of scrimping and saving while raising my son as a single mother, but I never let go of the dream. When it was finally time for him to fly the nest, I flew too—straight back to the city I love more than any place in the world.
New Orleans isn’t just where I live; it’s where I feel most alive. It’s a place that celebrates resilience, creativity, community, and the beautiful, messy magic of being human. And every day I’m here, I’m reminded that I made it home.
My entire life has been rooted in hospitality, and I’ve always carried the dream of owning and operating a Bed & Breakfast. I’ve been—and will always be—the hostess with the mostess. For years I worked as a private chef, welcoming people to the table, feeding them, and creating spaces where they felt cared for.
